2/27: Injury Forces Sperling To Withdraw From Regions
Junior Garrett Sperling's season came to an end when he was forced to withdraw from the Region Tournament after suffering an elbow injury at Region practice. Would like to wish Garrett a speedy and full recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the mat in 2010 for that run at a trip to AC.
For the year, Sperling was 32-4 and became the all-time career wins leader for Shore Regional.

Junior Garrett Sperling finished 2nd and senior Chris Remedios at the District 23 Tournament on Saturday.
Sperling knocked off 2nd seeded John Palsi of Pt. Beach to advance to the finals before dropping a 2-1 decision to top-seeded DJ Santos of Brick Memorial in the finals.
After falling to 2nd-seeded Omar Akel of Long Branch in the semifinals, Remedios defeated Wall's Marc Donner, 4-3, to grab 3rd place.
Sperling and Remedios move on to the Reion 6 Wrestling Tournament and will be in action in the opening round on Tuesday night. Sperling will match up against Bubba Lanno of Southern Regional, while Remedios will face Mike Schumann of TR South.

Junior Garrett Sperling improved to 8-0 on the season and picked up his 2nd individual title of the season as he claimed the 119-pound title at the 2008 Holmdel Holiday Tournament. The title for Sperling was his third in three years at Holmdel.
Senior Chris Remdios and sophomores Luke Bush and Kevin Chapman also claimed championships and Yaviz Eriske placed 3rd and Joey Massaro took 4th as the Blue Devils placed 3rd as a team in the eleven team tournament.

12/20: Sperling Wins Title At Icebreaker
Junior Garrett Sperling decisioned Freehold Township's Joe Benedict 4-2 in overtime to win the 119-pound championship at the 2008 Matawan Icebreaker Tournament. Sperling, who was the top seed at his weight, went 4-0 for the day on his way to the title.
Sophomore Luke Bush was 2-1 on the day and finished in 2nd place in the 135-pound weight class. Senior Chris Remedios went 3-1 to finish 3rd at 160, and junior Tyler Kimble (130) and sophomore Kevin Chapman (152) each won three bouts and finished in 6th.
As a team, the Blue Devils finished in 9th place.

2008-2009 Preview
The Blue Devils lose nine starters from a year ago to graduation, but return a talented and experienced group down low and have plenty of young guys in the room looking to step in as they look to continue their streak of increasing their win total each year under fourth year coach Zach Miers.
Among the returners down low are a trio of 20-match winners from 2008: sophomore Luke Bush (26-9 as a freshman) and juniors Garrett Sperling (27-9 / Holmdel Christmas Tournament Champ / 4th at Districts) and Tyler Kimble (21-14 / 2nd at Holmdel).
Returning sophomore starters Dan Pollard and Connor Arnette are also back down low for Shore and should show the benefits from a full season's worth of varsity experience under their belts. They are also joined by senior Kevin Furlong, the 103-pound starter in 2007, who rejoins the team after a year away.
The upper half of the lineup will be breaking in several newcomers to the lineup as junior Joey Massaro (8-2) and senior Chris Remedios (6-11, 2 year letterman) are the only ones with extended varisty experience.

Schedule
December: Shore once again opens the season at the Matawan Icebreaker where they had six Top 5 finishers a year ago. They make the ten minute drive on the 22nd for a match at Monmouth Regional, and then close 2008 with a trip to the Holmdel Christmas Tournament on the 27th.
January: Several Group 4's are on the schedule as Shore travels to Manalapan for a tri with the Braves and Colts Neck on the 17th. They'll also take on Middletown North as part of a quad meet on 24th, while Brick comes to West Long Branch on the 19th. The big date though is January 14th when the Blue Devils head to Point Beach in a match that will probably decided the B-Central championship.
Wrestler To Watch - (So) Luke Bush - 135
Bush very quietly had a solid freshman season for the Blue Devils, picking up 26 wins in his first year. Took a tough loss in the opening round of the District 23 Tournament, losing by one point to eventual 3rd place finisher Conor Brennan of Brick. Has a chance to become the Blue Devils first underclassmen to place at Districts since Adam Chiarella in 2005.
DESPO's Outlook
Shore took a pretty big hit to graduation. They lost nine starters including 30-match winner and District medalist Steve Gallo, and a pair of 20-match winners. They do, however, return a VERY soild group down low that will put up wins and bonus points for them. This is a team that is only going to get better as the season goes on with the strength down low hopefully hitting their stride, and the new faces in the upperweights improving with more and more experience.
The Blue Devils should very well be in the hunt for the Division crown and, despite a BRUTAL District, could send a couple guys to Regions if all goes well.

2/27: Injury Forces Sperling To Withdraw From Regions
Junior Garrett Sperling's season came to an end when he was forced to withdraw from the Region Tournament after suffering an elbow injury at Region practice. Would like to wish Garrett a speedy and full recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the mat in 2010 for that run at a trip to AC.
For the year, Sperling was 32-4 and became the all-time career wins leader for Shore Regional.

Junior Garrett Sperling finished 2nd and senior Chris Remedios at the District 23 Tournament on Saturday.
Sperling knocked off 2nd seeded John Palsi of Pt. Beach to advance to the finals before dropping a 2-1 decision to top-seeded DJ Santos of Brick Memorial in the finals.
After falling to 2nd-seeded Omar Akel of Long Branch in the semifinals, Remedios defeated Wall's Marc Donner, 4-3, to grab 3rd place.
Sperling and Remedios move on to the Reion 6 Wrestling Tournament and will be in action in the opening round on Tuesday night. Sperling will match up against Bubba Lanno of Southern Regional, while Remedios will face Mike Schumann of TR South.

12/29: Blue Devils Finish 3rd at Holmdel Holiday Tournament
Junior Garrett Sperling improved to 8-0 on the season and picked up his 2nd individual title of the season as he claimed the 119-pound title at the 2008 Holmdel Holiday Tournament. The title for Sperling was his third in three years at Holmdel.
Senior Chris Remdios and sophomores Luke Bush and Kevin Chapman also claimed championships and Yaviz Eriske placed 3rd and Joey Massaro took 4th as the Blue Devils placed 3rd as a team in the eleven team tournament.

12/20: Sperling Wins Title At Icebreaker
Junior Garrett Sperling decisioned Freehold Township's Joe Benedict 4-2 in overtime to win the 119-pound championship at the 2008 Matawan Icebreaker Tournament. Sperling, who was the top seed at his weight, went 4-0 for the day on his way to the title.
Sophomore Luke Bush was 2-1 on the day and finished in 2nd place in the 135-pound weight class. Senior Chris Remedios went 3-1 to finish 3rd at 160, and junior Tyler Kimble (130) and sophomore Kevin Chapman (152) each won three bouts and finished in 6th.
As a team, the Blue Devils finished in 9th place.

2008-2009 Preview
The Blue Devils lose nine starters from a year ago to graduation, but return a talented and experienced group down low and have plenty of young guys in the room looking to step in as they look to continue their streak of increasing their win total each year under fourth year coach Zach Miers.
Among the returners down low are a trio of 20-match winners from 2008: sophomore Luke Bush (26-9 as a freshman) and juniors Garrett Sperling (27-9 / Holmdel Christmas Tournament Champ / 4th at Districts) and Tyler Kimble (21-14 / 2nd at Holmdel).
Returning sophomore starters Dan Pollard and Connor Arnette are also back down low for Shore and should show the benefits from a full season's worth of varsity experience under their belts. They are also joined by senior Kevin Furlong, the 103-pound starter in 2007, who rejoins the team after a year away.
The upper half of the lineup will be breaking in several newcomers to the lineup as junior Joey Massaro (8-2) and senior Chris Remedios (6-11, 2 year letterman) are the only ones with extended varisty experience.

December: Shore once again opens the season at the Matawan Icebreaker where they had six Top 5 finishers a year ago. They make the ten minute drive on the 22nd for a match at Monmouth Regional, and then close 2008 with a trip to the Holmdel Christmas Tournament on the 27th.
January: Several Group 4's are on the schedule as Shore travels to Manalapan for a tri with the Braves and Colts Neck on the 17th. They'll also take on Middletown North as part of a quad meet on 24th, while Brick comes to West Long Branch on the 19th. The big date though is January 14th when the Blue Devils head to Point Beach in a match that will probably decided the B-Central championship.
Wrestler To Watch - (So) Luke Bush - 135
Bush very quietly had a solid freshman season for the Blue Devils, picking up 26 wins in his first year. Took a tough loss in the opening round of the District 23 Tournament, losing by one point to eventual 3rd place finisher Conor Brennan of Brick. Has a chance to become the Blue Devils first underclassmen to place at Districts since Adam Chiarella in 2005.
DESPO's Outlook
Shore took a pretty big hit to graduation. They lost nine starters including 30-match winner and District medalist Steve Gallo, and a pair of 20-match winners. They do, however, return a VERY soild group down low that will put up wins and bonus points for them. This is a team that is only going to get better as the season goes on with the strength down low hopefully hitting their stride, and the new faces in the upperweights improving with more and more experience.
The Blue Devils should very well be in the hunt for the Division crown and, despite a BRUTAL District, could send a couple guys to Regions if all goes well.
